Bollywood actress Adah Sharma is set to appear next in Governor. During an exclusive conversation with Zoom, the actress spoke about Janhvi Kapoor’s role in Peddi and shared her thoughts on why actors must exercise caution when selecting projects. She emphasised that choosing the right roles can significantly influence an actor’s career and public perception. Janhvi Kapoor recently faced online trolling over her role in Peddi, with the pan-India film drawing criticism for allegedly portraying the female lead in an objectionable manner. Following the backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana issued an apology and removed the controversial scenes from the Ram Charan-starrer.
Reacting to the debate, Adah Sharma, who is gearing up for the release of Governor alongside Manoj Bajpayee, shared her perspective exclusively with Zoom. The 1920 actress addressed the Peddi controversy and also spoke about how actors approach role selections, emphasising that performers often make choices based on scripts, characters, and creative vision.
Adah Sharma On Backlash Against Janhvi Kapoor’s Role In Peddi
During a candid chat with us, Adah Sharma shared her views on the trolling faced by Janhvi Kapoor over her controversial scenes in Peddi and the portrayal of women as objects of desire in South Indian films. Responding to the debate, Adah said: “I have never shied away from commenting on any question asked about a film I’m part of. Even during The Kerala Stry, I answered everything. If there is a scene I am in, in a film of any language, and I’m asked about it, I will definitely answer pertaining to someone lusting for me or the other way around.”
Adah Sharma declined to share her opinion on the controversy and remarked, “I am not in Peddi and haven’t watched the film yet. Also, my journey as someone who isn’t from the industry will be very different from someone who belongs to the film industry, so I don’t think my comment will be valid here.”
Adah Sharma On Actors’ Choices
When asked whether actresses need to choose projects wisely to improve the portrayal of women in Indian cinema, Adah Sharma said every actor must be careful while selecting roles. She emphasised that responsibility lies with all performers, not just actresses, in bringing meaningful change to storytelling and representation. “Not just female actors; I think male actors as well, directors, writers, and even the person selecting the fake moustaches and wigs. One bad choice and the whole nation suffers. Change doesn’t arrive with a drumroll.”
“It’s like eating vegetables—you don’t notice the effect immediately, but one day everyone looks healthier. Women in real life are funny, scary, brave, confused, intelligent, dramatic and sometimes all before breakfast. I enjoy when I’m offered scripts where the female character doesn’t have only one setting,” the Governor actress added. For the unversed, Janhvi Kapoor and Ram Charan’s film Peddi performed strongly at the box office, crossing the ₹150 crore mark in India and emerging as one of the year’s successful releases.
