The legal trouble dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav reportedly took a loan of ₹5 crore from a private company to produce the film Aata Pata Lapata. The film failed at the box office, resulting in significant financial losses. Due to non-repayment, accumulated interest reportedly pushed the outstanding amount to nearly ₹9 crore. The cheques issued by Rajpal Yadav allegedly bounced, prompting the lending company to initiate legal proceedings. In 2018, he was sentenced to six months in jail in connection with the cheque bounce case.
