Kajol Opens Up About Dropping No-Kissing Policy After 30 Years for The Trial: ‘I Was Uncomfortable’ – Read Here!

Kajol

In a career spanning over three decades, Bollywood actress Kajol consistently maintained a strict no-kissing policy on screen. However, she chose to break this long-standing rule in her 2023 OTT show The Trial. The veteran actress has now opened up about the reasons behind her significant decision. Kajol has, in a career spanning more than three decades, carved her own path, breaking norms and establishing herself as a versatile actress. Widely regarded as one of the most successful Hindi film stars, she dominated the late 90s and early 2000s with iconic films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dushman, Fanaa, and My Name Is Khan.

She has explored genres ranging from romance and comedy to mystery and horror, yet has consistently avoided on-screen kissing scenes with her co-stars. She continues to choose roles aligned with her comfort levels. Kajol, currently exploring more mature roles largely on OTT platforms, recently broke her long-standing no kissing rule on screen. The 51-year-old actress surprised audiences by sharing a kiss with a co-star in her 2023 web series The Trial Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha. Three years later, the Bollywood star has opened up about the reasons behind shedding inhibitions and doing something she had long avoided in her career.

Kajol opens up about breaking her long-standing no-kiss rule

During a conversation with Lilly Singh on her podcast, Kajol justified her decision, saying it served the character and script rather than being added casually. She explained the kiss was essential to Noyonika’s emotional journey, reflecting deeper narrative intent overall. “It wasn’t simply a kiss; it was about what she thought and what she wanted to happen and what didn’t happen for her,” she said. She described the kiss as an integral element essential to the film’s overall screenplay structure, “I couldn’t have cut that out without cutting an integral part of the entire character.”

On being extremely uncomfortable

Kajol, however, admitted her discomfort until she actually performed the shot. She said she liked the scene in theory but wasn’t sure she would go through with it. Ultimately, she chose to proceed as a professional decision, adding that today she feels confident enough to make such calls herself entirely independently.
