Ranveer Singh Cast as Lord Shiva in Epic Trilogy from Amish Tripathi’s ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ – Report

Ranveer Singh

Bollywood dapper actor Ranveer Singh will reportedly portray Lord Shiva in the cinematic adaptation of Amish Tripathi’s Shiva Trilogy, beginning with The Immortals of Meluha. The ambitious trilogy is reportedly being backed by the Dhurandhar actor himself alongside Aditya Birla, promising a grand big-screen mythological spectacle. Ranveer Singh, currently seen as Hamza Ali Mazari in Dhurandhar, is reportedly set to play Lord Shiva in the adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha. While Ranbir Kapoor headlines Ramayana as Lord Ram, Ranveer is aiming for another grand mythological venture.

The actor is also expecting his second child with wife Deepika Padukone. The original trilogy is likely to expand into a three-part franchise. First announced in January 2012 by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the project was delayed for multiple reasons. However, after the massive success of Dhurandhar and its sequel, Ranveer now appears ready to move forward with it.

Did Ranveer Singh acquire the rights to The Immortals of Meluha?

According to a May 11 report by Pinkvilla, Ranveer has reportedly secured the rights to Amish Tripathi’s The Immortals of Meluha for a hefty undisclosed amount. The film will be produced under his banner, Maa Kasam Film. The adaptation is currently in development, with Ranveer collaborating with Aditya Birla’s Birla Studios to create the mythological saga as a grand trilogy on a massive scale.

What do we know about speculated adaptation?

The source material is planned as a three-film cinematic universe. Ranveer will headline the trilogy as Lost Shiva, while the remaining cast and director will be finalized only after the script development and detailed world-building process are completed by the makers behind the ambitious project. “The acquisition happened recently, and the project is now officially under development. The first part is expected to go on floors in 2028,” the publication quoted a source.

The plan is to adapt the source material into a three-film cinematic universe. Ranveer will headline the trilogy as Lost Shiva, while the remaining cast and director will be finalized later. This will happen only after the script is completed and the world-building process is fully developed and creatively locked in.

The Immortals of Meluha Adaptation Journey: A Timeline of Screen Plans

The Immortals of Meluha is a fantasy novel by Amish Tripathi set in 1900 BC. The story portrays Lord Shiva as a Tibetan immigrant who arrives in the powerful kingdom of Meluha. Soon, he is identified as the legendary “Neelkanth,” a destined savior chosen to protect the land and battle the Chandravanshis and the mysterious evil Nagas.

In 2012, Karan Johar announced an adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha, which was initially rumoured to be titled Shuddhi and directed by Karan Malhotra. However, both projects later turned out to be separate. Amish Tripathi had also revealed that a Hollywood producer acquired rights for an American adaptation, creating confusion around Dharma’s involvement. Later, reports suggested Malhotra was developing the script with Tripathi as creative consultant. Eventually, in May 2017, Dharma Productions exited the project after its rights contract expired. Despite names like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shekhar Kapur being linked to the rights, it appears Ranveer Singh has finally managed to seal the deal.

Why would this be the right move for Ranveer Singh?

Following the success of Dhurandhar, which reportedly reshaped his career path, this seems like the perfect phase for Ranveer to explore new genres. Despite his fallout with Farhan Akhtar after exiting Don 3, the actor is now in a strong position to experiment with costume dramas or mythological films — genres he has never attempted before in his career.

The actor is set to begin shooting for director Aditya Dhar’s ambitious next project from March 2027, marking another collaboration after their successful partnership. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh also has Pralay, directed by Jay Mehta, which is tentatively scheduled to go on floors in August 2026.
