Television actor Sorab Bedi has spoken out after facing intense criticism on social media over comments he made following the tragic death of his co-star and close friend, Sanchita Ugale. The actor, who worked alongside Sanchita in Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi, found himself at the centre of an online storm after a paparazzi interaction went viral, with some viewers accusing him of being insensitive while discussing the late actress.
Sanchita Ugale’s sudden death at the age of 22 shocked the television industry and left fans and colleagues devastated. Known for her work in shows such as Kumkum Bhagya, Saajan Ghar, Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi and Wagle Ki Duniya, the young actress was regarded as one of television’s promising talents. Her passing sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with friends and co-stars sharing emotional tributes and memories.
Amid the mourning, Sorab Bedi spoke to paparazzi about his friendship with Sanchita and revealed that he had spoken to her just two days before her death. During the interaction, he mentioned that she appeared troubled and was dealing with personal struggles. However, certain portions of the conversation were clipped and circulated online, leading some users to interpret his remarks as insensitive.
The backlash escalated rapidly, with social media users questioning the tone of his comments and accusing him of lacking empathy. Several posts criticised the actor, prompting him to address the controversy directly through social media.
In his response, Sorab strongly rejected allegations that he was being disrespectful towards Sanchita. He urged people to think carefully before making assumptions and clarified that his words had been taken out of context. The actor stressed that he was genuinely grieving the loss of a friend and would never intentionally make insensitive remarks about someone who had been close to him.
Sorab also expressed frustration over the way online discussions often focus on short clips rather than the full context of a conversation. According to him, many viewers reacted without understanding what he had actually intended to say. He maintained that his comments reflected concern and sympathy for Sanchita rather than judgment or criticism.
Defending himself against the trolling, the actor remarked that he was not foolish enough to make heartless comments during such a painful moment. He explained that he understood the sensitivity of the situation and would never deliberately disrespect the memory of someone he cared about.
Beyond the controversy, Sorab has repeatedly spoken about the impact Sanchita’s death had on him personally. In earlier statements, he recalled their final conversation and said they had even been planning to meet soon. He described her as someone who appeared burdened by personal difficulties and admitted that her death left him shocked and heartbroken.
