Varun Dhawan

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan faced heavy trolling after his smile in Border 2 drew criticism online. Addressing the backlash in a recent interview, the actor shared his thoughts on dealing with negative comments and public scrutiny. Directed by Anurag Singh, the war drama is slated for release on January 23 next year. Nearly five months after Border 2 hit theatres, Varun Dhawan has finally addressed the trolling he faced online. Released in January 2026, the much-awaited sequel to JP Dutta’s Border starred Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty.

While the war drama received mixed reviews from critics, it emerged as a box-office success. However, Varun became a target of social media criticism after the film’s trailer and songs were unveiled. Many users mocked his performance and questioned his smile in several scenes. Now, the actor has broken his silence and reacted to the backlash.

Varun Dhawan Breaks Silence on Trolling Over Border 2

In an interview with Bombay Times, Varun opened up about the trolling he faced before Border 2 released and how opinions shifted after audiences watched the film. During that period, he said he learnt about God’s screenplay. The actor shared that when someone puts sincere effort into a film based on the army and the nation, they expect positive outcomes. However, things unfolded differently for him, making the experience both challenging and eye-opening.

When the actor faced negativity, he was left surprised and questioned how such criticism had suddenly come his way. “Why is this happening with this film? I feel that sometimes God takes you down just to lift you up again. That’s exactly what happened to me,” added Varun. The Bollywood actor further stated that he preferred letting his performances speak, believing hard work mattered more than publicity.
