Vikrant Massey Opens Up About His Childhood Inspiration To Become An Actor, Reveals Sanjay Dutt Connection: Deets Inside!

Months after his major win, Massey spoke exclusively to Times Now, revealing he had always known acting was his calling, recalling that the dream took root very early in childhood, when he was only five or six years old.

Vikrant Massey recently earned the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in 12th Fail, a defining achievement in his journey. The honour marks a significant milestone and celebrates his powerful portrayal of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. His performance drew widespread praise for its authenticity, emotional depth, and understated intensity. Months after receiving the prestigious award, Massey spoke exclusively with Times Now, reflecting on his lifelong passion for acting. He revealed that the desire to become an actor sparked very early, sharing that he knew his calling when he was only five or six years old as well.

Speaking to Times Now Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, Vikrant recalled a defining story that shaped his journey, explaining that his guiding idea and unwavering intention was always to act forward. “I always wanted to be an actor. My grandfather was an actor, but unfortunately, I never got to see him. But my father was an actor, director, and producer in a theatre in Shimla.”

Vikrant mentioned that Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, honoured him with a gold medal after his achievement in the prestigious All India Dramatics Competition, held during his early career. ‘Toh wo tasveerein meri dadi ke ghar pe lagi wei thi. Wo aaj bhi meri cousin ke ghar pe padhi wei wo tasveerein,’ he added.

What inspired Vikrant Massey to pursue acting

“And I remember I was, my brother and I, and, you know, building ke bachche, aas paas ki building ke bachche, agar wahape Sanjay Dutt shoot kar rahe hote the. Kyunki Versova village, I don’t know if a lot of people are aware, Versova village, Madh Island, where I stay now, wahaan bahut shootings hoti hain. Toh koi chase sequence hota tha, Versova ki galiyon me aur action sequences hota tha, bahut famous filmon me aapne dekha hoga, toh hum wahan khade hoke dekhte the. 

And I was one of those over-enthusiastic kids. Jab bhi ghar pe rishtedar aate the, toh parents would be like, beta, maasi ko dance karke dikhao, and I used to dance on all the songs at that time,” stated Vikrant sharing what motivated him to join the film industry.

After winning the National Award for Best Actor for 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey shared a heartfelt message online. Widely regarded as the finest actor of his generation, he expressed gratitude with trademark humility. The actor revealed the rush of emotions he felt after receiving the honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan, calling the moment overwhelming, surreal, and deeply moving for fans worldwide.
