Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5, 2026, after the Delhi High Court rejected his last-minute plea in a decade-old cheque bounce case. The case, which dates back to 2010, involves an alleged outstanding amount of approximately ₹9 crore, linked to the financial fallout from his production venture “Aata Pata Lapata.” The development has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many fans expressing support for the popular comedian.

Rajpal Yadav’s Brother Said No one Sent Assistance
However, his elder brother Shripal Yadav has questioned claims of financial assistance being offered online. Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles began in 2010 when he borrowed ₹5 crore from M/s Murli Projects Private Limited to finance his directorial debut, “Aata Pata Lapata.” Unfortunately, the film failed at the box office, resulting in heavy financial losses.

Over time, the borrowed amount reportedly increased to nearly ₹9 crore due to accumulated interest, penalties, and delays in repayment. In an effort to settle the dues, Rajpal Yadav allegedly issued multiple cheques to the lender. These cheques reportedly bounced, leading to legal proceedings under cheque dishonour laws. On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court directed the actor to surrender before jail authorities by 4 pm on February 4.

He has been serving his sentence in Tihar Jail since February 5. As news of Rajpal Yadav’s surrender spread, several social media users claimed they were ready to help him financially. However, his elder brother Shripal Yadav has publicly stated that no such assistance has reached the family. In a conversation with one of the media houses, Shripal Yadav said, “If people have helped, please tell us where the money was given. The person who manages Rajpal’s account has also not confirmed any financial assistance.”

He further said, “If anyone has helped, where was the money given? To whom was it given? Why is the family unaware of this? If someone has truly helped, the family will be grateful. It’s just rhetoric on social media, and if that’s true, it’s false.” His statement suggests that while sympathy has poured in online, there has been no confirmed financial relief provided to the actor or his family.
