Actor Janhvi Kapoor has spoken about alcohol addiction, stating that it should not be viewed as a moral failing but as a mental health condition requiring awareness, understanding and treatment.
The actor made the remarks while supporting an awareness initiative aimed at changing public perception around alcohol use and dependency. She highlighted that conversations around alcohol addiction are often either absent or shaped by judgement, which can prevent individuals from seeking help.

According to Janhvi, alcohol consumption has become increasingly normalised in social settings, but there is limited understanding of when it transitions from casual use to a clinical concern. She noted that this gap in awareness often leads to people overlooking early signs of addiction.
She emphasised that alcohol addiction is a real and clinically recognised condition that affects individuals across different backgrounds. The actor added that it should be treated as a health issue rather than a reflection of personal weakness or lack of willpower.
Highlighting the role of stigma, Janhvi said that judgemental attitudes surrounding alcohol use often discourage open discussions. She observed that many people hesitate to acknowledge their struggles due to fear of being labelled or misunderstood.
The initiative she is associated with aims to reframe the conversation by focusing on clinical understanding, self-awareness and access to professional care. It seeks to provide resources and support systems for individuals dealing with alcohol dependency, encouraging them to seek help without stigma.

As part of the campaign, Janhvi has collaborated with a mental health organisation to promote evidence-based approaches to addiction. The programme is designed to bring together expert insights, personal experiences and educational content to improve awareness around the issue.
Experts associated with the initiative have also underscored that addiction lies at the intersection of neurological, psychological and social factors. They stressed that it requires structured intervention, including counselling and medical support, similar to other mental health conditions.
Janhvi’s remarks come amid growing conversations around mental health in India, particularly in relation to substance use. Increasingly, public figures have been using their platforms to address stigma and promote access to treatment.

On the professional front, Janhvi Kapoor was recently seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which released in 2025. The film featured her alongside Varun Dhawan, Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf and performed moderately at the box office.
She is next set to appear in the Telugu film Peddi, marking another step in her expanding presence in pan-India cinema.
