Earlier this month, Rajpal Yadav surrendered in connection with a long-pending cheque bounce case dating back to 2010. The actor had taken a loan of ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Private Limited to finance his directorial debut, Aata Pata Lapata. Released in 2012, the film failed to perform at the box office, leading to financial strain. Due to repayment delays, cheques issued by the actor reportedly bounced, prompting legal action by the lender.

Over time, with added interest and liabilities, the outstanding amount rose to approximately ₹9 crore. On February 4, 2026, the Delhi High Court declined to extend the repayment period. The following day, Rajpal surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities. The actor was later granted interim bail until March 18, 2026, on the condition that he deposit ₹1.5 crore into the complainant’s bank account. After fulfilling the court-mandated formalities, he was released on Tuesday.
