‘Real To Real Hota Hai’, After Kareena Kapoor Khan, Now Neena Gupta Took A Dig At Prada For Kolhapuri Chappal

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor recently wore Kolhapuri slippers, shared a photo, and said sorry to the ‘Prada’ brand, saying that her favorite is the OG Kolhapuri slippers. After Kareena, now Neena Gupta has also taken a dig at the Italian brand. She shared a video on her official Instagram handle in which she is showing a pair of handmade Kolhapuri slippers. These slippers have been gifted to her by actress Laxmikant Berde.

Sharing the video, Neena Gupta said, ‘So, these Kolhapuri slippers are making headlines these days. Once I did something with Laxmikant Berde. I don’t remember what it was. So, I told him, ‘Can you get me these slippers from Kolhapur?’ He said, ‘Yes’. So, he got them for me.’ The 66-year-old actress further said, ‘These are the most beautiful slippers ever. The most beautiful and handmade. I love them. Thank you, Laxmikant. You are no more, but I love you.’

The ‘Metro In Dinon’ actress further wrote in the caption of the post, ‘Real toh real hota hai.’ A day earlier, Kareena Kapoor also posted a photo wearing Kolhapuri on Instagram Stories and wrote, ‘Sorry not Prada, but my OG Kolhapuri.’ Actually this entire controversy started a few days ago, Italian luxury fashion brand ‘Prada’ copied the design of Kolhapuri slippers and was selling these slippers for Rs 1.25 lakh.

Usually, these slippers are cheap and durable and have been a favorite of the general public for years. It is also a symbol of Indian craftsmanship. But when Prada presented it in the ‘Spring / Summer 2026’ show, a controversy arose. The artisans are hurt that Prada adopted an Indian and very traditional thing and did not even give credit. However, Prada later admitted that the design is inspired by Indian handmade slippers.
