Uttarakhand Cloudbursts Leave Trail Of Destruction; Celebs Voice Grief, Raise Climate Alarm

Two devastating cloudbursts in Dharali and Sukhi Top triggered flash floods in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi, leaving behind a trail of destruction. As rescue efforts continue, several Bollywood celebrities have spoken out, mourning the lives lost and calling for urgent climate action.

Sonu Sood, Bhumi Pednekar, others react

Actor Sonu Sood took to X to express his anguish: “Heartbroken by the devastating floods & cloudburst in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Prayers for every life affected. It’s time the nation comes together — while the govt does its part, we as individuals must stand up for every soul who lost a home, a living, a life.”

Adivi Sesh echoed the sentiment, posting: “Praying for #Uttarakhand. Heartbreaking visuals.”

Bhumi Pednekar posted a strongly worded message on Instagram, saying: “What’s happening in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is heartbreaking.” She pointed to deforestation and unchecked development as key contributors to the frequent monsoon disasters. “Some visuals are so scary… we are all nothing in front of the wrath of nature. Learn,” she wrote, sharing videos from the region.

Raghav Juyal, Urvashi Rautela also speak out

Raghav Juyal, who belongs to Uttarakhand, shared a prayer emoji and reposted a video highlighting the growing construction in ecologically fragile areas. “Stop this. It’s already too late,” he warned.

Urvashi Rautela, originally from Haridwar, issued an emotional statement: “Every stone, every river, every breath of Uttarakhand is part of my soul. Seeing the devastating floods in the Kheer Ganga river—my land, my people, my family—I feel an ache that words can barely hold.”

She urged fans to take action: “Even a small contribution, even sharing verified relief links, even sending prayers—it matters. It saves lives.”

What happened in Uttarkashi

A cloudburst around 1:40 pm Tuesday caused massive flooding in the Kheer Ganga river. The waters tore through Dharali village—just a kilometre from Harsil on the Gangotri highway—destroying homes, hotels, shops, and homestays. At least four people have died and many remain missing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that he had spoken with Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and assured that all necessary relief efforts are underway. “No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people,” he posted on X.
