Diljit Dosanjh has landed in hot water with a section of the internet following the release of the trailer for Sardaar Ji 3, which stars Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the lead opposite him. Amid recent tensions between India and Pakistan, many users online have voiced their disappointment over her casting, questioning Diljit’s stance on national issues.
Reddit Reacts Strongly
A Reddit thread titled “Guts” went viral shortly after the trailer dropped, featuring harsh criticism of Diljit. One user wrote, “Never spoke a word during the war… now we know why. I liked him, but the opinion is now changing highly.” Another comment read, “Honestly, I don’t think Diljit holds any love towards India. I hope the border-makers now remove him from any army-related project.”
Others questioned his political leanings, with comments like “So all the allegations about him being a separatist are kind of true, I feel. What a shameless person he is,” and “You can’t expect anything better from Diljit. He’s always been clear about his ideologies.”
Some Redditors pointed out that because the film is not a mainstream Bollywood release, it may escape broader scrutiny. “Not a Bollywood film so likely won’t face much backlash,” one user noted. Another added, “Well, they weren’t going to cut someone out who clearly had such a big part.”
Context: India-Pakistan Tensions
The backlash comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, a major Indian military offensive launched in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 people. The operation targeted terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan. Both nations later agreed to a ceasefire following rising tensions.
Adding to the controversy, last year Hania Aamir had attended Diljit’s London concert, where she joined him on stage in a moment that went viral online.

Directed by Amar Hundal, Sardaar Ji 3 features Diljit and Hania as ghost hunters investigating a haunted mansion in the UK. The film also stars Manav Vij, Gulshan Grover, Jasmin Bajwa, and Sapna Pabbi.
