Actor Ridhi Dogra has shared a detailed note on marriage, equality and modern relationships amid the ongoing public discussion surrounding the death of Twisha Sharma and other recent dowry-related cases. The actor posted the message on Instagram, where she urged young men and women to stop “romanticising marriage” and rethink outdated expectations attached to relationships.
Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida who married Bhopal-based Samarth Singh in December 2025, died on May 12. Her family later alleged dowry harassment and mental torture by her husband and in-laws. Police registered a case against her husband and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the matter.
Ridhi Dogra’s post came amid growing conversations online around dowry harassment, marital pressure and women’s safety following the Twisha Sharma and Deepika Nagar cases.

In her Instagram note, Ridhi addressed “young girls and boys” directly and said the social structure in which previous generations experienced marriage no longer exists in the same way today.
“The age of your parents and the world they grew up in has expired,” Ridhi wrote while discussing changing expectations inside modern marriages.

The actor stated that women today are financially and socially more independent than before and no longer require marriage for survival. According to Ridhi, companionship and mutual respect should become the foundation of relationships rather than dependency or obedience.
She also wrote that young men need to understand that women today “will not do what you ask them to blindly” because changing laws and opportunities have empowered them to live independently.
At the same time, Ridhi said women should also avoid unrealistic expectations from partners after marriage. She advised women not to expect their boyfriends to become “Mr Prince Charming” after marriage, adding that men are also adjusting to changing gender roles and social expectations.

“Please don’t expect any fairy tale. Educate yourself. Live for yourself. And please stand up for yourself,” the actor wrote in her post.
Ridhi also discussed the issue of family interference in marriages and stated that a “respectful union” should remain between two people rather than becoming controlled by extended family pressure.
The actor further shared her views on feminism, writing that “true feminism is just equality.” She clarified that supporting women’s rights should not mean putting men down and added that mental health conversations should include both genders equally.
In another section of the note, Ridhi referred to the concept of Shiv and Shakti, saying balance in relationships can only exist through “love and respect for yourself and for the other.”

The post quickly gained attention online and triggered widespread discussion across social media platforms. Many users reposted portions of Ridhi’s message, especially the lines asking people to stop idealising marriage and fairy-tale expectations.

The Twisha Sharma case continues to remain under investigation. According to reports, Twisha was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family alleged sustained dowry harassment and cruelty. A post-mortem conducted at AIIMS Bhopal reportedly stated the death was caused by hanging.
The discussion intensified further after another case involving 24-year-old Deepika Nagar from Greater Noida surfaced days later. Deepika allegedly died by suicide after facing mental harassment and dowry-related pressure from her in-laws, according to her family’s complaint. Police later arrested her husband and father-in-law as part of the investigation.
Several public figures and actors have reacted to the cases over the past few days. Earlier this week, actor Kangana Ranaut also shared a message encouraging women to become financially and emotionally independent.
Ridhi Dogra’s note has now become part of the larger online conversation around marriage, equality, emotional independence and gender expectations in modern relationships.
