Software Engineer Arrested For Talking To Actresses By Impersonating Director Sriram Raghavan

A 31-year-old software engineer from Tamil Nadu has been arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly creating a fake social media profile of Bollywood’s famous writer and director Sriram Raghavan and interacting with new actresses. The engineer is accused of fooling several photographers along with actresses and models for several months. Let us inform that Raghavan had complained to the Versova police station in March this year, following which an FIR was registered against an unidentified person.

In his complaint, he had said that someone was interacting with aspiring models and actresses for a year by creating fake profiles of them on Instagram as well as Facebook. In this regard, a Versova police official said that initially the director ignored it but after receiving several complaints he decided to approach the police. Raghavan told the police that he had only one Facebook account. Apart from this, she is not present on any other social media platform. In her statement to the police, she said that in March, an aspiring actress approached her and told her that a person on Facebook with an ID named after her had chatted with the actress and offered her a role in a web series.

The man reportedly told the woman that there were some bold scenes in the web series for which she would have to do a photoshoot. During this, the actress revealed that she also gave a fake email id of the director and asked him to contact the photographers. On learning this the director alerted the woman that it was a fake profile and later approached the police. Acting on the basis of the complaint, the police arrested the accused Shanmuga Thangavel from Tiruchengode in Tamil Nadu recently. He has been booked under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation) of the Indian Penal Code and 66C (theft of identity) of the IT Act. Police are now looking for the women who have been cheated.

Talking about the career of Sriram Raghavan, he made his debut as a director with the 2004 film Ek Hasina Thi. After this he has directed films like Johnny Gaddaar, Agent Vinod, Badlapur, Andhadhun. At the same time, he is directing the film Merry Christmas.
