SS Rajamouli Calls RRR A Telugu Film, Not Bollywood At Oscar Screening; Twitter Divided

RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has been a huge success with the Western audience. RRR won the award for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu at the recently concluded Golden Globes 2023. The RRR team is now promoting for an Oscar nomination for the film in Hollywood. In a recent discussion about the film, director SS Rajamouli described RRR as a “Telugu film from the south of India,” eliciting a wide range of reactions on social media.

In a recent interview, SS Rajamouli was joined by actor Jr NTR, and they discussed the film’s reception and how it became such a global phenomenon. They also discussed the process of shooting the song Natu Natu, and how difficult it was to complete the shoot.

Before The RRR screening, SS Rajamouli spoke to a group of journalists at the Directors Guild of America. He stated during introducing the film, “This isn’t a Bollywood film. This is a Telugu film from southern India, my hometown. But, rather than stopping the film and giving you a piece of music or a dance, I use songs to move the story forward. I use those elements to advance the plot.”

Netizens Slams Rajamouli For His Statement

Now, After His statement, Netizens were divided by Rajamouli’s comments, which were shared on Twitter. “RRR is nominated from India,” one user commented,”South India or Telugu are not included . Do not be prejudiced against a particular region or language. Also, Bollywood, as a film industry, does not represent India?.” Another responded, “Why are you expecting all Indian movies to be portrayed as Bollywood?” This response was deemed appropriate by one user, who stated, “Bollywood deserves this insult.” Another person reshared the video and wrote, “Yes. True. Bollywood produces Hindi films. This is a Telugu-language regional film. Shouldn’t regional films be recognised if they’re good?”

Let Us tell you, RRR is a fictional story Which shows the lives of two real heroes, revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, set in the 1920s prior to independence. While Ram Charan portrayed Ram, Jr NTR aka Tarak played Bheem.
