‘2.5 Crore Out of 5 Crore Already Paid’, Claims Rajpal Yadav’s Lawyer in Cheque Bounce Case

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav continues to remain lodged in Tihar Jail as the Delhi High Court on Thursday deferred hearing his bail plea in a long-running cheque bounce case. The court did not grant him immediate relief and has scheduled the next hearing for February 16. The High Court has also issued a notice to Murali Project Company, the complainant in the case, seeking its response before proceeding further.

Rajpal Yadav’s counsel, Bhaskar Upadhyay, informed the court that the actor has already repaid ₹2.5 crore out of the ₹5 crore investment involved in the dispute. According to the lawyer, half of the outstanding amount has been cleared, and a final decision regarding the remaining amount will be addressed during the next hearing. Upadhyay stated that Yadav never refused to repay the investment and claimed that at one stage, the company had declined to accept the payment when it was offered.

The case stems from a 2012 agreement related to financial transactions connected to the actor’s film project. The lawyer further mentioned that Rajpal Yadav has already served three months of his sentence during the course of legal proceedings. Rajpal Yadav had also sought interim bail to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur. However, the court has not yet delivered a final ruling on this request. The matter will likely be addressed during the next hearing on February 16.

The legal dispute dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav reportedly took a loan to finance his film Aata Pata Lapata. Following his inability to repay the loan, legal action was initiated. In 2018, a magistrate court sentenced the actor and his wife to six months in jail under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with cheque bounce cases.

Over the years, the Delhi High Court granted multiple opportunities for repayment. However, after repeated commitments were allegedly not fulfilled, the court issued strict directions. On February 4, the High Court ordered Rajpal Yadav to surrender. The actor subsequently surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5. With the court now awaiting a response from Murali Project Company, the upcoming February 16 hearing will be crucial in determining whether Rajpal Yadav receives bail or remains in judicial custody.
