Main Vaapas Aaunga unfolds through a non-linear narrative, shifting between past and present timelines. In the present, a seriously ill Naseeruddin Shah lies on his deathbed and expresses a final, deeply emotional wish to Diljit Dosanjh’s character: to visit his ancestral hometown of Sargodha, which is now located in Pakistan.
The narrative then shifts 78 years back to the 1947 Partition, where Vedang Raina plays Shah’s younger version. His heartfelt romance with Sharvari is shattered by Partition’s turmoil, ending in a deeply emotional scene as Raina desperately shouts in anguish. “Main vaapas aaunga” (I will return) from a departing train.
