Parineeti Chopra says Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila brought hope back into her life and career after a difficult spell. In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, the actress recalled hitting a low point professionally before signing on to the Netflix biographical musical drama. The project, she says, not only renewed audience admiration but also revived the recognition and opportunities that had begun to ebb. Parineeti Chopra credits Amar Singh Chamkila for restoring her career’s momentum.

Early success and the slump that followed
Parineeti made a striking Bollywood debut in Ishaqzaade opposite Arjun Kapoor, a performance that earned widespread praise and established her as a promising young actor. Subsequent films such as Hasee Toh Phasee, Kesari, Namaste England, Golmaal Again and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar added range to her résumé, but she admits the momentum did not last. “I had many films that didn’t work before Amar Singh Chamkila. I was at a low in my career. I had like three, four, or maybe five bad years where nothing was working,” she told Zoom, describing a period when projects repeatedly failed to click.

How Amar Singh Chamkila turned things around
For Parineeti, the Chamkila experience was decisive. She credited Imtiaz Ali’s film with restoring “love, admiration, accolades, nominations, and awards” that had eluded her during the slump. “When you say turn the tide, I’m only answering for turning the tide. The tide was very low, and Amar Singh Chamkila brought that hope back into my life,” she reflected. The film’s success, and the critical attention it generated, helped reshape her career trajectory and reinstate industry confidence in her work.
Talaash: a binge-worthy whodunnit
Following Chamkila, Parineeti will next appear in the web series Talaash: A Mother’s Search, directed by Rensil D’Silva and arriving on the same streaming platform. She described the show to Zoom as “the craziest whodunnit that you have watched,” adding that the script gripped her from the first read. Unlike most scripts she considers slowly, she finished this one in two hours and read every episode straight through because she couldn’t put it down.

“It was like a suspense novel. It wasn’t like a script,” she said, explaining why she immediately signed on. Parineeti promised a compulsive viewing experience: viewers will be driven to binge the series to find answers to the central mysteries. “If there’s any binge-worthy show, it’s this. Till the end, you will not know who, what, why and you will want to solve it. I’m so excited for everybody to watch it,” she added.
Parineeti Chopra’s Work Front

Parineeti’s most recent theatrical appearance was Amar Singh Chamkila (2024), where she starred opposite Diljit Dosanjh in the Imtiaz Ali-directed biographical musical drama. Industry reports also link her to Capsule Gill, a survival drama inspired by the life of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, which is expected to be a substantial next release. Through Chamkila and the promise of Talaash, Parineeti Chopra appears to have reasserted herself as a consequential screen presence—one who has navigated setbacks and come back with projects that promise both critical weight and popular appeal.
