Quarantine Hair Care Routine

By Shri

We are all stressed because we don’t have access to spa, saloons and hairstylists amid coronavirus-induced quarantine. With the pandemic preventing us from doing anything, we are all about to see split ends, greys and dull hair. This doesn’t mean all forms of hair care are off-limits. A daily hair care routine is as important as a skincare regimen. Let’s have a look at some daily hair care tips to maintain healthy hair.

  • Hair Oil

The first step in a normal hair care routine is an oil massage or a pre-shampooing routine, irrespective of your hair type. Use coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil to massage your scalp and hair and leave it for at least one hour or overnight. Rinse your hair with a mild shampoo. This will promote blood circulation and moisture in your hair. To curb dandruff, add a few drops of rosemary essential oil or tea tree oil to a carrier oil and massage it in your scalp.

  • Hair Shampoo

Clean hair is one of the most important steps for healthy hair. The frequency of washing depends on the hair type. Never use hot water to wash your hair since it can strip the hair of its natural oils resulting in dry and dull hair.

Oily scalp: Wash your hair frequently to avoid an accumulation of sebum on your scalp. Keep your hair wash routine according to the oiliness of your hair.

Normal scalp: Wash your hair twice a week or as needed since the hair does not get oily or dry quickly. Use soap-free and alcohol-free hair cleansers to maintain the pH balance of the hair.

Dry scalp: Wash your hair once a week. Use SLS-free shampoo to prevent further drying of your hair.

  • Hair Conditioner

A hair conditioner maintains the health of your hair by adding moisture and shine to your hair. Apply conditioner after washing your hair and rinse it after a few minutes. Do not apply conditioner to scalp or roots.

  • Leave-in Conditioner

A leave-in conditioner adds fragrance and moisture to the hair. It creates a protective layer on hair strands and keeps the hair manageable. Choose an alcohol-free formula to avoid drying out your hair.

For oily hair, use a leave-in conditioner that is non-sticky and oil-free. For normal hair, use a leave-in conditioner that does not make the hair too greasy. Dry hair gets tangled easily and tends to appear frizzy after a wash. A silicone-based formula creates a coating on the hair strands that will detangle your hair and make it manageable.

  • Hair Serum

The best thing about serum is that it offers a lovely shine, reduces frizz, smoothens your hair and smells amazing. It protects hair from dust and humidity. Apply the serum in damp hair from the roots towards the upward direction to lock the moisture. Serums are beneficial for all hair types.
