Allu Arjun’s much-awaited sci-fi film Raaka has achieved a major feat even before its release. The film has officially entered the Guinness World Records for recording the highest number of people in real-time motion capture. A total of 37 performers were motion-captured simultaneously during a single session, making it a notable technical achievement for the film. Guinness World Records officially lists the achievement as “Most people motion-captured in real-time,” with the record standing at 37 people. What makes the achievement particularly interesting is the age range of the performers involved.

Let us tell you that the 37 participants included artists ranging from a four-year-old child to a 70-year-old senior. All of them were captured at the same time inside a single motion-capture volume. The technical challenge was not simply getting so many people in one frame. The team had to track the movement data of every performer simultaneously while avoiding signal loss and spatial distortion. This required a specially developed motion-capture pipeline designed around the film’s demanding VFX requirements. To make the record possible, the visual-effects team used an elaborate technical setup involving 92 optical motion-capture cameras.

The motion capture process also incorporated calibration, networking and synchronisation systems, along with real-time visualisation through Unreal Engine and facial-capture technology. The scale of the setup highlights the amount of coordination required to capture dozens of performers simultaneously while preserving the accuracy of their movements. The technology is expected to play an important role in bringing the film’s ambitious visual world to life.

Allu Arjun expressed his pride in the Guinness recognition and credited director Atlee, the entire technical team and Sun Pictures for making the achievement possible. Director Atlee also spoke about the significance of the achievement, saying that he had grown up hearing about Guinness World Records and never imagined that he would eventually be part of one. He highlighted the challenge of bringing 37 motion-capture assets together in a single shoot.
