Kajol Says She Never Preferred To Work In Bollywood And Instead Wanted To Work With A “Regular Pay Cheque”

Kajol appears as a special guest on the latest season of Kon Honar Crorepati, the Marathi version of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, alongside her mother Tanuja. On Tuesday, June 7, the My Name Is Khan diva took to Instagram to share a few videos from the episode, which will air this Saturday, June 11.

In one of the videos, Kajol is heard saying that she never wanted to be an actress in the Hindi film industry and instead desired a job with a set salary. “I never aspired to work in Bollywood or the Hindi film industry. I’d always wanted to work. A job that would pay me every month “, says the actress in the video.

In response, the show’s host, Sachin Khedekar, says that he is glad Kajol chose acting over other careers because otherwise, people would have missed her brilliant performances in Indian cinema. Tanuja, Kajol’s mother, who was the leading actress in Bollywood from the 1960s to the 1970s, adds, “Think about the people in her office.”

When it comes to Kon Honar Crorepati, famous actor Sachin Khedekar hosted the first two seasons before returning for the fifth and sixth seasons. The third season was hosted by Swapnil Joshi, and the fourth season was hosted by filmmaker Nagraj Manjule of Sairat fame.

Returning to Kajol, she was last seen making her virtual debut in 2021 with the Netflix family drama Tribhanga. The film was a relationship drama with a dysfunctional family at its heart, with three generations of women reflecting on their life stories and choices. Tanvi Azmi was Kajol’s mother, and Mithila Palkar was her daughter. Kajol made her acting debut in 1992 with Rahul Rawail’s Bekhudi and went on to star in films such as Baazigar, Yeh Dillagi, Karan Arjun, and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Gupt, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, My Name is Khan, and Fanaa. In an old interview, the actor, who has had numerous hits, told PTI that she has become an actor by chance.
