Ronit Roy Didn’t Get Any Call After Successful Debut; Says, He Ended Up Having No Films For Several Years!

Versatile actor Ronit Roy has completed almost three decades in the entertainment industry. Though he rose to fame with TV, few people know that Ronit made his debut in acting through films. In his recent interview, the actor has revealed that even after the success of his debut film, Jaan Tere Naam, he did not get any more projects for months. He has said his debut film was a huge hit but even that could not get him any more movie offers.

Ronit in an interview with The Indian Express revealed that he ‘made wrong choices’ and didn’t get projects for a long time. He also told that he got a second chance to prove himself through his TV innings. Ronit stated, “It (Jaan Tere Naam) was a silver jubilee. Those days meant 25 weeks in a theatre. Now, it would mean a ₹100-150 crore film. It is natural to get a lot of offers, a lot of films after a debut that ran so long in the theatres. Unfortunately, for me, I did not get even a single call for 3 months. I made wrong choices and ended up having no films for several years. It was in the early 2000s when I came back with Balaji Telefilms. And 2010, I came back to the cinema with Udaan. So, it’s been a journey.”

He mentioned life turning points of his career and said, “That was like a big wave for television. I consider myself lucky to have caught it. Kasautii was a turning point in my career.”

Ronit’s Jaan Tere Naam was released in 1992. It ran in theatres for 25 weeks. After tasting success on TV, Ronit ventured back into films through the 2010 critically acclaimed film Udaan. After that, the 56-year old actor bagged Student Of The Year, 2 States, Kaabil and Ugly. His next screen outing will be Shamshera which also features Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt. The film will be in cinemas on 18 March 2022. Ronit also has a pivotal role to play in Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer Liger. He was last seen in Voot Select’s web show Candy alongside Richa Chadda.
