Kriti Sanon Shares Raksha Bandhan Post With Nupur Sanon, Takes Dig at ‘Rakhi Fashion Committee’ Amid Ad Row

Kriti Sanon has shared a Raksha Bandhan post with her sister Nupur Sanon amid the backlash over her recent jewellery advertisement, appearing to take a subtle dig at those who criticised her outfit.

The actor posted a picture showing only her and Nupur’s hands, with both sisters wearing rakhis, rather than sharing a full picture of their outfits. Alongside the image, Kriti wrote, “While the Rakhi fashion committee is in session, we’re just here celebrating what actually matters — us.”

Kriti’s post comes days after a Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring her for jewellery brand GIVA sparked criticism on social media. The campaign showed her wearing an Indo-Western outfit while celebrating the festival and tying a rakhi to a pet dog. A section of users objected to her attire and the depiction of the festival.

The controversy intensified after BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut criticised the advertisement and questioned Kriti’s choice of outfit for a Raksha Bandhan campaign. Kriti subsequently defended herself, saying that culture and traditions are not determined by a woman’s neckline and questioning why women are told what they should wear.

Nupur had also defended her sister during the controversy, pointing out that she was the person to whom Kriti had tied the rakhi in the advertisement and questioning why others had a problem with it.

The jewellery brand later withdrew the advertisement amid the backlash, saying it had deep respect for Indian culture, traditions and festivals.

Kriti’s latest Raksha Bandhan post comes after the advertisement was taken down and as the exchange between her supporters and critics continues online.
