Twinkle Khanna is someone who is known for not holding herself back even in the public domain. The writer doesn’t mince words when it comes to talking her heart out. Before foraying into writing, Khanna did acting for a short period of time. When she didn’t see any growth in it, she switched her profession.
In a recent conversation with Waheeda Rehman, shared on the Tweak India YouTube channel, Twinkle recalled her acting days. She stole the limelight when she revealed having a fallout with a director who made an unpleasant suggestion to her.
When Waheeda Ji talked about being mistreated by director Raj Khosla on a film, former actress Twinkle Khanna responded and went on to reveal a story that was similar to Waheeda Rehman’s anecdote. Twinkle told that a director suggested she should ‘do a Mandakini’ for a song sequence, implying that she should wear see-through clothes.
Twinkle quoted, “I also had something similar, but a little more graphic. I was wearing a white kurta, and ready for the quintessential rain song, and the director comes with a shawl wrapped around, imitating Guru Dutt. And he says, ‘If I tell you to do a Mandakini, what will you say?’ I said I will say two things. First, I will say ‘no’, and secondly, ‘You’re not Raj Kapoor’.”
After this disagreement between Twinkle and the director, which Twinkle did not name, the directed refused to speak with her and decided to never cast her again. Mrs. Funnybones said, “He never spoke to me, he never repeated me, and it was horrible. But one has to stand one’s ground.”

Well by the description that Twinkle gave, we can decode the director to be Dharmesh Darshan. He was known to wear shawls. Twinkle appeared in a rain song in the film Mela which was directed by Darshan.
Twinkle is often seen making fun of her short acting career and her acting skills. At her book launch event in 2018, she was quoted as saying, “I have not given any hit film. Whatever films I have done should be banned and (no one should watch) it. Most of the time, I pretend I have Alzheimer’s and I don’t remember my film career and it makes me happy that way.”
Mela starred Twinkle opposite Aamir Khan and his brother Faissal Khan. It tanked at the box office and was Twinkle’s last film as an actress. Twinkle has produced many of her husband Akshay’s movies. The two are known to take funny digs at marriages.
