Kapil Dev, a former cricketer for India, and his wife Romi Bhatia recently attended a private screening of the upcoming movie Double XL. In a video published by a paparazzo account, Romi is seen telling the film performers that the plot reminded her of her harrowing childhood experiences with body shaming. Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Zaheer Iqbal, and other Double XL stars were seen listening to her story.
A Special Screening
In the film Double XL, directed by Satramm Ramani, Huma and Sonakshi Sinha play two plus-size women who battle against a society that defines people based on their body types. Before the film’s release, a special screening for celebrities was organized in Mumbai, which several notable filmmakers attended. In a recent video, Romi is shown giving the film’s makers her feedback as Kapil before leaving the cinema to see it again.
Saqib Saleem, Huma’s brother, and the film’s producer accompany Kapil in the video before the former cricketer presents Saqib, Huma, and Sonakshi to his wife, Romi. Romi lauds the film and tells the actors, “You women have lived my life. That was my size when we first met (she points to Kapil). People would mention that he married that aunt while we were engaged, which made me want to cry. I am certain I have experienced it. I liked your movie. Hamari yaad nahi aayi (didn’t you get reminded of us) was my jab at him.”

Romi referred to the film as a “must-see.” She said she had already encouraged her friends in many WhatsApp groups to see the movie.
Before this, the film’s director, Farah Khan, had also praised its relevance. Being a size double XL myself, I found the men appealing. Farah observed in a video from the film’s VIP screening for directors that the women were outstanding, but the men were also quite adorable. “I feel all of us who are always dieting or trying to lose weight, or everyone, would identify with it,” she remarked.
On November 4, Double XL will be exhibited in cinemas. In addition to Huma, Sonakshi, and Zaheer, cricket star Shikhar Dhawan makes his first appearance in a film.
