BCCI officials believe that there should not be a separate captain for ODIs and T20s. For this reason Rohit has been given the captaincy of ODI. There is not much time left even in the 2023 World Cup. In such a situation, the selectors and BCCI officials wanted that Rohit should have enough time to build his team for the ODI World Cup.

Virat became India’s ODI captain in January 2017 when Dhoni resigned from the post. He later told that he had taken this step to give Kohli time to prepare for the 2019 World Cup. Although Virat could not win the 2019 World Cup for India. India had to face defeat in the semi-finals of this tournament.

Along with giving the captaincy of the ODI team, Rohit has also been made the vice-captain of the Test team. Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane was the vice-captain of India’s Test team. He also captained India in the first match in the series against New Zealand.

However, his form was not good for some time. Whereas Rohit batted brilliantly. For this reason, Rohit has been made the vice-captain of the Test team in place of Rahane.
Rohit has captained India in 10 ODIs so far. In eight of these matches, Team India has won, while in two it has to face defeat.
