Actress Dia Mirza forayed into Bollywood and straight into the hearts of the people in 2001 with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein. Since then, she has appeared in many movies like Deewaanapan, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Tumsa Nahin Dekha, and Parineeta among others. Though Dia had a short career in the film industry, she stunned everyone with her comeback in web shows. Mirza is garnering more praise in her second innings as an actor.

In a recent interview, Dia opened up about a topic that many actresses dodge and that is premarital sex. Calling it a personal choice, the Dum actress said, “I feel when it comes to personal choice and the power of personal choice, it can only be celebrated by those who ensure they make personal choices, not threatened, not afraid of making the choice that you need to as an individual.”

Further in the conversation, Dia lamented the regressive notions people have about premarital sex and pregnancy. She also said that she believes people are as progressive as they imagine themselves to be. She told the publication that when it comes to women’s rights, “we are still in dark ages.”

For the unversed, Dia, who tied the knot with businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in February 2021 announced her pregnancy two months later i.e. in April 2021. A certain section of society alleged that the actress rushed her marriage because of pregnancy. When one of the users on Instagram asked a tricky question in the comments section of Dia’s pregnancy announcement post, she responded to it by writing, “Interesting question. Firstly, we didn’t marry because we were having a baby together. We were already marrying as we wanted to spend our lives together. We discovered we were going to have a baby while we were planning our wedding. So this marriage is not the result of pregnancy. We didn’t announce the pregnancy until we knew its safe (medical reasons). This is the happiest news of my life. I’ve waited for many many years for this to happen. No way I would hide it for any reason other than medical.”

On the work front, Dia is currently shooting for Dhak Dhak alongside Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanjana Sanghi. Besides that, she has Anubhav Sinha’s Bheed in the pipeline. The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar as protagonists.
