Veteran actress Aruna Irani was left devastated as she attended the funeral of her husband and filmmaker Kuku Kohli in Mumbai on Wednesday, August 26. Kohli, best known for directing Phool Aur Kaante and giving Ajay Devgn his breakthrough, passed away at the age of 77 after suffering a massive heart attack.

Kuku Kohli’s final rites were performed at Oshiwara Crematorium in Mumbai. His funeral procession began from his residence in Green Acres, Lokhandwala Complex, at around 10 am before the family headed to the crematorium. Aruna Irani was seen arriving with family members and appeared visibly emotional and heartbroken during the final farewell.
According to reports, Kuku Kohli had been admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital after feeling unwell. He reportedly suffered a mild heart attack before undergoing treatment, but his condition later became critical. On August 25, he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and could not be revived. His death was confirmed by a spokesperson for Aruna Irani, who was reportedly not in a condition to speak to the media at the time.

Aruna and Kuku had been married since 1990. Their relationship had often attracted attention because of its unconventional beginning and the couple’s decision to maintain a private personal life. Kuku had two daughters, Pooja and Karishma, from his earlier marriage to Rita Kohli. Aruna and Kuku did not have children together.
Several Bollywood personalities attended Kuku Kohli’s funeral to pay their final respects. Rohit Shetty, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Rajpal Yadav and other members of the film fraternity were among those who gathered to bid farewell to the filmmaker.

Kuku Kohli played an important role in 1990s Bollywood. His directorial debut, Phool Aur Kaante, released in 1991 and launched Ajay Devgn as a leading actor. He subsequently directed films including Suhaag, Haqeeqat, Kohrram, Anari No. 1 and Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa. His final directorial film was Woh Tera Naam Tha, released in 2004.
Following his death, tributes poured in from across the film industry. Salman Khan also expressed his condolences, sending a message of strength to Aruna Irani and remembering the late filmmaker.
