Bengali Actor Dev Opens Up About His Decision To Take Realistic Roles And More; Deets Inside!

Deepak Adhikari, better known by his stage name Dev, is an Indian actor, producer, singer, and screenwriter who is most recognised for his work in the Bengali film industry. More recently, he has also entered the political arena. The production company Dev Entertainment Ventures Pvt. Ltd. is owned by him. He has been predominantly working in commercial films like ‘Rangbaaz’, ‘I love you’, ‘Challenge’. But recently he is trying out more realistic moc=vies of different genre like ‘Golondaaj’, ‘kismis’ etc. According to Dev, the upcoming film ‘Projapoti,’ in which he stars alongside Mithun Chakraborty, would benefit from the two actors’ incredible chemistry off-screen. Directed by Avijit Sen and starring Mamata Shankar, Koneenica Banerjee, and Shweta Bhattacharya, this family drama hits theaters on December 23 and promises to be an emotional roller coaster.

The Tollywood actor continued, “Mithunda was extremely moved when he heard the script. Two years ago, while we were filming a reality show, he and I had a lengthy conversation about the issue. I’m in, he said without further explanation. You won’t believe this, but I actually saw him cry during the dubbing process!” This was a great praise coming from a veteran actor who has been in over three hundred and fifty films. Actor Mithun Chakraborty has returned to Bengali film after a lengthy absence, and one of the industry’s most prominent figures has expressed his delight at the news. However, he has also noted the difficulty of locating stories worthy of an actor of Chakraborty’s Calibre. “We always knew from the start that Mithun da was the best choice for the part in Projapoti. Dev, who plays Mithun Chakraborty’s son in the film, commented on the actor’s quick acceptance of the role because of the script’s emotional impact.

“He is really down-to-earth, always cracking jokes, and he often used to pull my legs,” Dev added of the seasoned actor, describing the experience of working with him on set. Growing up, I watched his movies, and now I get to perform alongside him, and even play his son, which is a huge honour.

Challenge, Paran Jai Jaliya Re, Khokababu, and Rangbaaz are just a few examples of the hard-hitting commercial potboilers that helped make him a household name. But Dev thinks he has come a long way from the beginning: “I reinvented myself with Chander Pahar, Arshinagar, Buno Haansh, Tonic, Golondaaj, Kacher Manush, to mention a few. In my opinion, you should shape yourself to fit the current era. One method to bring about a shift as an actor is to take on more realistic roles.”

Meanwhile, after ‘Projapoti,’ Dev is working on another big project: a biopic of independence warrior Bagha Jatin. Pre-production is well underway, and if all goes well, filming will begin early in the new year.
