A viral social media post claiming that actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint her as India’s next Education Minister has been debunked as fake. The fabricated screenshot surfaced online amid political developments surrounding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and quickly gained traction, prompting confusion among social media users.
The viral image falsely attributed a statement to Kangana in which she allegedly expressed her desire to take charge of the Education Ministry. The post was widely circulated across multiple social media platforms, with many users believing it to be genuine. However, there is no evidence that the actor or parliamentarian ever made such a statement.
Fact-checks have confirmed that the screenshot is fabricated and does not originate from any of Kangana Ranaut’s verified social media accounts. No official statement, interview or public post from the actor supports the claim that she sought the position of Education Minister.
The misinformation spread at a time when the country was witnessing intense debate over the education sector following nationwide student protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The controversy intensified after Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down as Union Education Minister, fuelling speculation over who might succeed him. Against this backdrop, the fake post gained momentum, with several users sharing it without verifying its authenticity.
Kangana, who represents the Mandi constituency in the Lok Sabha as a BJP MP, is known for expressing her views on political and social issues. In recent days, she has commented on the ongoing education debate, including congratulating NEET topper Vaishnavi Das and making remarks about faith and academic success. However, she has not publicly indicated any interest in becoming the country’s Education Minister.
This is not the first time the actor has been targeted by misinformation online. Earlier this year, another fabricated post falsely claimed that Kangana had dismissed concerns over the NEET paper leak with a communal remark. That claim was also debunked by multiple fact-checking organisations, and Kangana herself denied making the statement.
Kangana continues to balance her political responsibilities with her film career. The National Award-winning actor entered Parliament after winning the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency and has remained an active voice on several public issues.
