Babita Kapoor Was Unhappy With Her Daughter’s Relationship With Abhishek Kapoor
Recently, in a podcast, late actor Mukri’s daughter Naseem Mukri made fresh claims about Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan’s breakup. She alleged that Karisma’s mother, Babita Kapoor, opposed the relationship and set an unusual condition before the marriage. According to Naseem, that condition created problems between the couple and eventually led to the end of their relationship. Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan were already in love before Haan Maine Pyaar Kiya started shooting, Naseem said while responding to Vickey Lalwani’s question about their relationship timeline.
Naseem further claimed that Babita never liked Abhishek and Karisma being together and did not support their marriage. According to her, Babita asked Karisma to tell Abhishek to transfer a huge amount of money before the wedding. She believed Karisma was more successful than Abhishek and wanted financial security before agreeing to the marriage, she claimed publicly. “Babita was against their love. She was not allowing this relationship. She got them to break up because of this. Babita told Karisma, ‘Ask Abhishek to transfer these many crores before the marriage; only then will you get to marry him… Because she was a bigger star than Abhishek. They broke up because of that.”
Vicky Lalwani asked why Karisma listened to her mother if she truly loved Abhishek. Naseem replied that Babita was very strict, and both daughters were scared of her. However, Kareena eventually moved out and began living independently, while Karisma chose to stay with her mother. According to Naseem, that decision influenced many important events in her life later. “Jab maa Hitler ho… (Babita was a Hitler mother). Girls were sh** scared of their mother. Kareena didn’t take Babita’s dominating attitude. She left and started living on her own. It was Karisma who lived with their mother.”
According to Naseem, the prenuptial agreement became the main reason behind Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s broken engagement. The document reportedly required Abhishek to transfer a fixed amount, and Karisma would receive financial support if they divorced. Naseem claimed the Bachchan family was shocked by these conditions and decided to end the engagement before the marriage could take place.
“The agreement was that Abhishek had to transfer money before the marriage. Also Karisma would be entitled to a certain amount of money if there was a divorce… But the Bachchans didn’t agree to it. So the engagement broke, and she later married businessman Sunjay Kapur.”
Earlier, Suneel Darshan spoke about the surprising breakup of the Bollywood couple. He said they shared great chemistry, which was visible in Haan Maine Pyar Kiya. According to him, outside influences created problems between them. These external factors disturbed their relationship and eventually led to the end of their engagement.
For those unaware, Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan got engaged in October 2002. However, their engagement was called off in January 2003 without any public reason. Later that year, Karisma married businessman Sunjay Kapur. Abhishek later married actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2007. Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur ended their marriage after the birth of their two children. Their divorce was bitter, with both sides making serious allegations.
Karisma claimed that Sunjay tried to sell her on their wedding day. Despite their separation, they continued to co-parent their children together. Last year, Karisma also attended Sunjay Kapur’s funeral, showing respect during the difficult time.
