Nana Patekar To Make Comeback With Social-thriller ‘The Confession’

Nana Patekar will star in The Confession, his first film since the 2018 MeToo crisis. On Saturday, a teaser for the film was released on social media, featuring a manipulated image of Nana in a courtroom. Throughout the teaser, the actor’s narration was heard. Taran Adarsh, a film trade analyst, announced the news.

“NANA PATEKAR IN ‘THE CONFESSION’… #NanaPatekar returns to the big screen after a gap, will essay principal role in social-thriller #TheConfession… Directed by #AnanthNarayanMahadevan… Produced by #NarendraHirawat, #PravinShah, #SagoonWagh, #AjayKapoor, and #SubhashKale.”

Computer-generated imagery of a confessional and subsequently a courtroom appearance in the teaser. Nana says in Hindi, “I have seen the face of truth, even heard its voice. I know the truth but won’t accept it. I am ready to give up my life for it.”

Actress Tanushree Dutta filed a complaint against Nana Patekar in 2018, alleging that he sexually touched her while filming a song-and-dance number on the sets of Horn OK Please on March 26, 2008.

Tanushree’s accusation sparked a wave of protests that became known as the MeToo movement in India. Several artists, journalists, and women from various industries have come forward with their accounts of sexual harassment and abuse by men in positions of authority. Directors Sajid Khan and Vikas Bahl, music composer Anu Malik, filmmaker Subhash Ghai, and others were among those accused of sexual harassment.

In Nana Patekar’s case, Mumbai Police later submitted a B-summary report in a metropolitan magistrate court in Andheri, requesting that the investigation be closed due to a lack of evidence to back up the complaint. Tanushree’s claims against Nana, according to the police, were “false and vindictive in nature.”

Nana Patekar is recognized for his roles in films like Khamoshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, and Welcome, among others.
