Prime Video Bought The Rights Of “Shamshera” For 80 Crores, These Are Also Expensive Movies Sold On OTT

Since Covid, the OTT platform’s popularity has greatly risen. Filmmakers work with OTT platforms for digital release even after cinemas open for business after a movie’s theatrical debut. The math involved in making money from an OTT platform picture is simple. To release or stream movies, OTT must purchase the rights. Following that, viewers can see it by paying a cost. The terms of this agreement vary depending on the language of the same movie.

The rights to the recently released movie Lal Singh Chaddha have reportedly been sold for between Rs 100 and Rs 120 crores. Netflix and Voot Select both provide the movie for viewing. Simultaneously, the digital rights to the movie Shamshera have also acquired for Rs 80 crore, however, as a result of copyright difficulties, Yash Raj Films will need to deposit Rs 1 crore with the registry.

KGF Chapter 2

The Yash starrer ‘KGF Chapter 2’ broke numerous records before setting a new one in terms of OTT deals. The Times of India reported that a well-known OTT platform had purchased the film’s OTT rights for about Rs 320 crore.

Laxmii Bomb

The Hindi remake of the South Indian hit movie “Kanchana,” “Laxmii Bomb,” stars Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the key roles. For 125 crore, the rights to the Raghava Lawrence-directed film were sold to Disney+ Hotstar. The movie was only available on Disney+ Hotstar and saw no theatrical release.

“Bhuj: The Pride of India”

Bhuj: The Pride of India, starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, and Sonakshi Sinha, takes place in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War. The movie’s rights reportedly cost 110 crore, and it was released on Disney+ Hotstar.

Sadak 2

Sadak 2, the prequel to the 1991 movie Sadak, generated a lot of hype because Mahesh Bhatt was making his directorial comeback after a 21-year absence. The rights to the movie, which starred Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, and Aditya Roy Kapur, were sold to Disney Hotstar+ for 70 crore.

Gulabo Sitabo

Gulabo Sitabo, which is directed by Shoojit Sircar, stars Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in the key roles. The movie is about two men who are battling over a house and is set in Lucknow. For 65 crore, Amazon Prime bought the rights to it.
