Speaking about his approach to relationships, Madhavan credited his upbringing and family values. He said that loyalty has always been deeply rooted in his family culture. “I believe loyalty is a family trait. My entire family remained devoted to Jamsetji Tata throughout their lives. We even had his portrait displayed alongside pictures of gods and goddesses in our home. So, honestly, I would have to make a conscious effort not to be loyal,” he once shared.

The actor also described himself as a timid middle-class Madrasi man, admitting that despite working alongside some of the most admired actresses in the industry, his priorities always remained clear. “Of course, I appreciate beauty and charming women, but at the end of the day, I would rather go home and spend time with my wife,” Madhavan said.

He added that Sarita manages many aspects of his finances and has complete access to his phone and accounts, reflecting the trust they share. Madhavan’s journey in cinema began with director Mani Ratnam’s acclaimed Tamil romantic drama Alaipayuthey in 2000. The film turned him into an overnight sensation and was followed by memorable collaborations with Ratnam in films such as Kannathil Muthamittal, Aayutha Ezhuthu, and Guru.

The actor has often credited Mani Ratnam not only for shaping his career but also for offering valuable advice about married life. According to Madhavan, the filmmaker became something of a love guru during the early years of his marriage. Despite attaining immense popularity after his debut, Madhavan chose not to hide his marital status. While some people advised him to keep his marriage private for the sake of his growing fan following, he did the exact opposite. “I used to read fan letters with Sarita. Whenever I traveled abroad for film shoots, I insisted on taking her along, not because I wanted to prove my loyalty, but because I never wanted to put myself in a situation where I would have to test it,” he recalled. Madhavan married Sarita on June 6, 1999. The couple has a son, Vedaant Madhavan, who has made a name for himself in competitive swimming. To support his sporting ambitions, the family has spent considerable time living in Dubai.
