Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel has made a surprising revelation about her family’s deep-rooted connection with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In a recent interview, the actress shared fascinating anecdotes that highlight her family’s strong political legacy and close ties with India’s most influential leaders. Speaking to one of the media houses, Ameesha revealed that her bond with Indira Gandhi goes back to the very beginning of her life.

Indira Gandhi’s Special Connection With Ameesha’s Family

“When I was born at Breach Candy Hospital, the first person who came to see me was Indira Gandhi,” she shared. According to Ameesha, the relationship between her family and Indira Gandhi existed long before her birth. It was rooted in both political association and personal closeness. Ameesha credited much of this connection to her grandfather, Rajni Patel, a renowned barrister and influential political figure.

She revealed that Rajni Patel shared a close association with India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who mentored him from a young age. Over time, he became deeply involved in politics, initially joining the Communist Party before moving to the Congress. During his tenure in the Congress party, Rajni Patel reportedly became one of Indira Gandhi’s closest advisors.

Ameesha stated that her grandfather played a key role in major political decisions and also held significant positions such as Treasurer and President within the party. Highlighting her family’s contribution, Ameesha shared that the Nehru Planetarium was built by her grandfather as a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru. The landmark remains a symbol of their family’s long-standing association with the Nehru-Gandhi legacy.

She also made an interesting revelation about her parents’ wedding, stating that the date was finalized based on Indira Gandhi’s availability. “Their horoscopes didn’t match, so Indira Gandhi was asked when she would be free. Based on that, the wedding date was decided,” Ameesha said. Ameesha also opened up about her personal life, including a well-known legal dispute with her parents. In 2004, she filed a lawsuit against her father over an alleged ₹12 crore financial mismanagement issue.
