Priyanka Chopra will soon appear in a new film directed by SS Rajamouli, alongside Mahesh Babu. While fans wait for more updates on this project, reports suggest that Priyanka will also make a brief appearance in another film, Amri.

This movie is based on the life of Amrita Sher-Gil, a famous Hungarian-Indian painter known as a pioneer of modern Indian art. Although details about the film are limited, it is said that Priyanka has already finished shooting her scenes. Here’s a simple look at who Amrita Sher-Gil was and why she is so important in art history.
Who is painter Amrita Sher-Gil?
Amrita Sher-Gil (1913–1941) was an important early modern Indian artist. She mixed Western painting styles with Indian themes. Her emotional portraits show the lives of poor and marginalised people in India. Born in Budapest to a Sikh father and a Hungarian mother, she moved to India as a child. She used her European training to create art that honestly reflected Indian society and everyday life.

She was the youngest artist and the only Asian to win a gold medal at the Paris Salon in 1933. Over time, her style changed from Western realism to a simpler Indian style inspired by Ajanta cave paintings. Her artworks often show the lives of women, poor rural people, and her own identity, filled with deep emotion and sadness. In 1976, the Indian government declared her works as national treasures, so they cannot be taken out of the country. She is seen as a major figure in 20th-century Indian art. She died at just 28 in 1941, under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind 172 paintings.
