A viral video recently appeared to show Sonu Nigam making fun of Salman Khan’s singing, and the clip quickly sparked chatter across social media. But now, Sonu himself has stepped in to reveal what was really behind the video. Sharing the viral clip on Instagram, the singer clarified that the footage had been edited and taken completely out of context. The circulating clip showed Salman Khan singing his popular track ‘Main Hoon Hero Tera’, followed by footage of Sonu Nigam making expressive faces and holding his forehead.

The edit was presented as though Sonu was reacting negatively to Salman’s singing, even carrying text suggesting that he was roasting the actor’s vocals. Given Sonu and Salman’s long association in Bollywood, the video quickly grabbed attention and left many viewers wondering whether the singer was taking a dig at the superstar. Sonu decided to set the record straight by reposting the edited clip on his Instagram.

Alongside it, he wrote, “Can expect the unexpected on internet. I stumbled upon this edited video. This was my reaction for a Pakistani little girl singer.” The original footage dates back to 2020 and actually featured Sonu reacting to a performance by young Pakistani singer Hadiya Hashmi, who had performed the song ‘Bol Hu’ for Nescafé Basement. Sonu’s emotional reaction had nothing to do with Salman Khan or ‘Main Hoon Hero Tera’.

After Sonu’s clarification, several people pointed out that they remembered the original clip. Singer Anish Mathew also commented that Sonu had been reacting to Hadiya Hashmi’s performance, further supporting the singer’s explanation. The clarification has now turned the entire controversy on its head. What initially looked like Sonu taking a swipe at Salman was actually old footage stitched together with a completely different video.

Interestingly, the edited video surfaced while ‘Main Hoon Hero Tera’ was already being discussed online over its credits. Salman Khan Films had shared a post marking 10 years of the song but initially omitted composer Amaal Mallik’s name. After Amaal objected, the post was subsequently updated. With Sonu’s clarification, however, the viral roast video has a very different story. The singer’s reaction was never about Salman Khan’s singing in the first place.
